Local rock band Amsterband has just been signed to Bloodshot Records, a large indie label based in Chicago. The ink is barely even dry on the deal at this point, but I got the call from lead singer Brian Roberts late this afternoon and I’ve confirmed it with Nan Warshaw, co-owner of label.
This is great news for Amsterband, as Bloodshot is one of the larger independent labels in the nation. It’s current roster includes artists such as Neko Case, the Old 97s, Alejandro Escovedo, Split Lip Rayfield and many others. Hit the link to find out more.
Plans are to re-release the group’s self-produced album “Buckle in the Bible Belt” in stores nationwide later this year. The contract calls for the band to make another couple of albums for Bloodshot. The connection is already paying off for Amsterband, as it is on the way to Austin, Texas, right now to play the Bloodshot party at South by Southwest with 11 other labelmate bands. Also, the band has a local show booked for March 30 at Randy Bacon’s studio.
I’ll have more on this at a later date, but right now I’m getting ready to light out on vacation for a week. For now I’ll just say: congrats to Amsterband; chalk up a little more recognition and validation for the Ozarks music scene.
